Word Smith

As I re-read some of the chapters of The Enchanted Locket that I wrote a while ago, I realize that I either need to change some of the words or add more detail to my scenes. I find it very helpful to write a portion of my novel that I am in ‘the mood for’ at the moment I sit down to write and just focus on that scene. I often find that when I write or embellish a chapter without a lot planning, I am able to write a thousand words or more in just a few minutes!

When I have trouble finding the words that fit the mood of the scene that I am writing, I turn to my thesaurus. Sometimes I spend more time searching for other ways to describe something than actually writing, and that’s okay, because I am learning how to be a better wordsmith.
