Expansion of Words

Expanding my list of vocabulary words as I write both my blog and novels is so rewarding. When I read books with words I wouldn’t have thought to use before, or an interesting phrase, I write it down in my small note pad to use at a later date. I enjoy searching for different ways to write a scene. The Oxford Thesaurus is a wonderful resource, as well as Microsoft Word’s thesaurus. It takes a good bit of time, but pays off when the writing flows from my mind into my story, especially when I am creating a new world.

Example with walk: stroll, saunter, amble, march, stride,                                                                   Example with want: desire, wish for, hope for, fancy.

Example in a sentence: I walked across the street with my boyfriend. Better: I strolled across the street with my boyfriend.

what a great thing: writing down words and phrases as you come accross them!
I too love the thesaurus. One of my favourite christmas gifts from my husband a few years back! Only a writer would understand. lol

Hi Jennifer, thanks for stopping by! I don’t think my husband would have thought to buy me a thesaurus as a gift, lol! I love how writers understand the little things that make us happy 🙂
