Update on The Enchanted Stone

It’s been a while since my last post (shame on me) because of a busy summer. June and July flew by, and sometimes I find myself glancing at my iPhone’s pictures for to reflect on my life.

The day after the 4th of July, my family and I drove to Pittsburgh to visit my parents as they prepare to sell their house. My dad gave me great information on his Irish grandparents, the people who I’ve based my enchanted tale on.

After two months of researching both Ireland and my family history, the story began to write itself as my husband drove us back to Texas. The opening scene is flowing nicely now so I can actually expand it and tone down my inner critic.

Writing the opening of a short story is a bit more difficult since it is short. every word has to move the story forward. John and Sarah McPhillips face tough times in Ireland in 1919, and hope to reach America before their baby is born.
